Modern design, traditional techniques

These dainty brass wind bells are handmade by skilled craftspeople and feature colourings that complement the material. Gold plating for gold, silver plating for silver, bronze plating for bronze, black nickel for black and copper plating for rose gold.

The wind catchers also feature an element made from a special Japanese paper hand-made from the bark of the Gampi tree, the Mitsumata shrub (Edgeworthia Chrysantha) or the paper mulberry. Washi is stronger and more weather-resistant than normal paper and is used in many traditional Japanese arts and also for vestments and ritual objects for Shinto priests and statues of Buddha.

All you need to know about brass wind bell chimes

How are brass wind bells made?
Casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is poured into a mould to form an object of the desired shape. Every Nousaku product starts with the creation of a sand mould and then undergoes several finishing processes. Hand-finishing by experienced craftspeople accentuates its material beauty and fineness.

Where do our brass wind chimes come from?
Nousaku in Japan manufactures brass wind bells through collaboration with designers, using traditional techniques acquired from producing Buddhist altar fittings. These wind bells offer the finesse of material beauty and the clear ringing sound that brass produces.

How do I play my brass wind bell?
The wind will play your brass wind bell for you. However, if you wish to initiate the sound yourself, you can gently use the wind catcher to imitate the effect of the wind. Hang your bell in an area with consistent airflow to produce beautiful calming sounds.

How do I care for my Nousaku wind bell?
Hang securely under a verandah or pergola with a reliable hook. Bring your brass wind bell inside during extreme weather. Use a damp, non-abrasive cloth or soft sponge to gently wipe away dirt or dust. Then, wipe with a dry cloth.
